There are different ways of getting tested, some of which may be more convenient than coming to see us in clinic.

Women can still do these tests if they are on their period, although there is a small chance the results may come back ‘untestable’, in which case we will ask you to return to repeat the test.

Testing in clinic
We run clinics at several different SHiP locations in the Plymouth area. Usually, we will arrange a telephone consultation and tests by post.

Online STI test kits
We offer an online STI test kit service. You take your own samples and post them back to us in a Freepost envelope. We will let you know the results by text within 14 days of us receiving your samples. You can test for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and HIV using this service.

Chlamydia and gonorrhoea test kits (under 25 only)
If you are under 25, you can pick up a test kit from various locations across the city. You take your own sample and post it back to us in a Freepost envelope. We will let you know the results within 14 days of us receiving your samples.

GPs and pharmacies
Some testing services are also available at enhanced service GPs and enhanced service pharmacies in the Plymouth area.
